Xu Shuya

Xu Shuya holds a PhD in Composition from the Paris Conservatory and is an Asian composer active in Europe and the USA. He has served as Dean of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Chairperson of the Shanghai Musicians’ Association, and Director of the Chinese Musicians’ Association. Selected as the leading expert in philosophy and social sciences in the national “Ten Thousand People's Scheme”; a“Batch of Four” talent of the Publicity Department as well as a literary and artistic master, Shanghai leading personnel, and a Shanghai “Oriental Scholar”, he is entitled to special government allowances from the State Council. Since 1991, he has attracted attention in Europe with his chamber orchestra work Chute en Automne. He stood out from the 233 nominees in the worldwide competition collecting musical works from all over the world at the renowned Pompidou Centre in France, and was the only Asian composer selected. Xu has won various international awards over the years.
