Emperors Dragon of the East, West, South and North seas are invited by Emperor Jade to hurriedly partake in the general assembly as an auspice of prosperity. On the prestigious occasion appealing to even celestial beings, Monster Ox is reminded of the Monkey King at the Cave of Waterfalls who excels in martial arts. Intending to visit the Monkey King, Monster Ox honors him as “the Saint Equal to Heaven” and addresses him as brother. Meanwhile, the Monkey King is annoyed as he does not have a handy weapon to wield. Incited by Monster Ox, the Monkey King insists on borrowing the weapon from Emperor Dragon of the East Sea. Showing off his dexterous feats with various weapons, the Monkey King selects a pillar of the Dragon Palace as his weapon. He transforms the Sea-pacifying Magic Needle into a much smaller size and inserts it in his ear. Upon hearing it, Emperor Dragon becomes so furious that he starts an ever-changing battle among the sea tribes.
New Havoc in the Dragon Palace is adapted from Monkey, one of the four classic novels in Chinese literature. It combines special factors of innovative performances such as Peking opera, installation art, acrobatics, song and dance, as well as talk show punctuated by bamboo lumps. Taking environmental issues into account, it leads the audience into the world of dragon palace which is playful, interesting and with profound knowledge of literature.
